  • Overview

    The Physical Logistics (Warehousing & Transportation) Director is responsible for managing all transportation and warehouse activities, personnel, and equipment.  Ensure all activities for warehousing, shipping and transportation occur in an efficient manner consistent with company established policies and procedures. Develops and adheres to budgets for all physical logistics activities. Ensures the safety and quality of Nissin employees and products. 


    Essential Functions- Job Duties: The following duties are considered essential to the job.  Qualified individuals must have the ability to perform the following duties.


    1. Development and implementation of effective receiving, warehousing and shipping policies and procedures.
      1. Develop policies and procedures for receiving and shipping operations. Conduct periodic reviews of existing policies and procedures to ensure maximum efficiency.
      2. Develop plan to reach receiving and shipping operational goals.
      3. Make recommendations for equipment purchases and capital improvements.
      4. Manage site operating and performance metrics.
      5. Assist with long term budget projections.
    2. Effective management of warehouse operations, including third party warehouses
      1. Ensures finished goods shipments are processed efficiently.
      2. Responsible for the development and success of warehouse personnel
      3. Oversee and maintain company systems to manage planning and reporting of shipments to customers. Maintain transactional discipline to support operations.
      4. Develop and maintain effective slotting process.
      5. Direct inventory procedures and controls on finished goods.
      6. Ensure first in first out (FIFO) rotation procedures are in effect for shipping and storage.
      7. Manage receiving and shipping space planning, ensuring layout will accommodate present and future storage requirements.
      8. Ensure receiving and shipping operations are in compliance with established procedures, policies, safety rules and regulations.
      9. Manage shuttle transfer operations.
    3. Responsible for the maintenance and safety compliance of for DC’s.
      1. Ensure OSHA requirements are effectively implemented.
      2. Ensure both the inside and outside of DC’s are clean and orderly, meet SQF requirements.
      3. Ensure forklifts, ladders, pallets, shelves, scanners, and machinery are in safe operating condition.
      4. Ensure warehouse security.
    4. Maintain professional business relations with vendors, suppliers, carriers, and external contacts.
      1. Act as a liaison between the company and external contracts.
      2. Oversee effective coordination of external delivery services.
      3. Obtain and convey information as appropriate.
    5. Manage and develop DC operations teams
      1. Provide leadership to assigned personnel by setting effective objectives, delegation of duties, and establishing open communication. Conduct regular meetings to ensure personnel are well informed of changes in policies and procedures. Discuss areas needing improvement.
      2. Identify, develop, and implement training programs as appropriate.
      3. Conduct performance appraisals. Provide measurable feedback to assigned personnel and suggestions for improved performance. Formulate and implement employee corrective actions as needed.
    6. Additional duties as required




    1. Establish departmental policies and procedures that guarantee the effective and efficient flow of finished goods and information in order to meet customers’ requirements, both internal and external
    2. Identify and secure transportation partners, ensuring transportation capacity to meet company needs
    3. Manage Transportation Management System and performance outcomes
    4. Direct transportation vendor selection and negotiation
    5. Develop and operate within monthly and annual transportation budgets
    6. Perform regular analysis of costs and recommend actions to minimize variance to budget
    7. Analyze information and evaluate results to choose appropriate solutions to problems
    8. Interface with all levels of management and other departments to ensure customer satisfaction and profitability
    9. Plan, organize, and manage the work of subordinate staff to ensure work is accomplished in a manner consistent with organizational requirements
    10. Train, coach, and develop logistics team in the execution of our transportation strategy



    Supervisory Responsibilities: Directly supervises all site employees. Carries out management responsibilities in accordance with the company’s policies, practices and applicable laws.  Responsibilities include training employees; assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

    Education and/or Experience: Bachelor’s Degree (B.A.) from an accredited college or university; and 7+ years relevant experience and/or training in the manufacturing industry; or equivalent combination of education and experience.  Warehouse, transportation management, Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP), inventory control, order management and MRP systems, cost accounting experience.
